Solvex – Use | Dose | Side Effects

Solvex (known as Bromhexine, Bisolvon) is a synthetic derivative of an active ingredient of plant vasicina. Preclinical studies has been shown to increase the level of mucus in the respiratory organs. Solvex improves movement of mucosal secretions by reducing its viscosity and activating ciliary epithelium (mucociliary clearance).

In clinical studies, the effect of Solvex showed the decomposition of sewage and its removal from the respiratory pathways, thereby facilitating the cough. By providing Solvex, the concentration of antibiotic (amoxicillin, erythromycin, oxytetracycline) in sputum and respiratory secretions are increased. Solvex is used for acute and chronic respiratory diseases, the present profuse secretion with reduced transport mucus.

Warning and precautions

Warn your doctor if you are taking other medications, have a chronic disease, a metabolic disorder, are hypersensitive to medicines or have had allergic reactions to some of them. Solvex you can not use if you know that you are hypersensitive to Solvex or other ingredients of the formulation.

Use with other medicines (Interactions)

Dosage and method of use

  • Oral use: A solution of 2 mg/ml (=60 drops):
    • Adults and children over 12 years: 3 x 4 ml per day
    • Children 6-12: 3 x 2 ml per day
    • Children: 2-6 years: 3 x 20 drops per day

No relevant data according to which the Solvex can be safely and effectively used in children under 2 years administered orally or by inhalation. At the beginning of therapy, it may be necessary to increase the total daily dose of up to 48 mg in adults.

Oral use (solution of 2mg/ml = 60 drops)

Adults and children over 12 years 3 x 4 ml per day

  • Inhalation solution (aerosol device): As a general rule it is recommended that solutions for inhalation heated to body temperature prior to inhalation. Patients with asthma may be advised to start with inhalation only after taking their regular bronchospasmolytic therapy.
  • Solution for inhalation:
    • Adults: 2 cycles of 4 ml per day
    • Children over 12 years: 2 times 2 ml per day
    • Children 6-12: 2 times 1 ml per day
    • Children: 2-6 years: 2 times 10 drops per day

The solution be dissolve with physiological solution in a ratio of 1:1. The solution should be inhaled immediately after mixing to avoid precipitation.

Inhalation solution (aerosol device)

Adults 2 cycles of 4 ml per day
Children over 12 years 2 times 2 ml per day
Children: 6-12 years 2 times 1 ml per day
Children: 2-6 years 2 times 10 drops per day

Side effects

Solvex are normally well tolerated. Side effects can be:

  1. diarrhea,
  2. nausea,
  3. vomiting and other mild stomach side effects.

An allergic reaction include:

  • rash,
  • hives (urticaria),
  • bronchospasm (transient narrowing of small respiratory pathways),
  • angioedema (vascular reaction that affects the deep layers of the skin and subcutaneous tissue) and anaphylaxis (hypersensitivity of the body),
  • occasional increase in serum transaminases.


There are not recorded any symptoms of overdose. If it occurs, should be applied symptomatic therapy.
