HCG weight loss products
HCG weight loss products contain human chorionic gonadotropin - HCG (a glycoprotein hormone that is normally produced by the embryo during pregnancy). It is claimed that these products are effective for weight loss.
What companies claim for HCG weight loss products?
Companies claim the following:
- HCG works on the hypothalamus which produces hormones that break down the fat accumulated in your body. However, HCG is effective only if used in combination with a low calorie diet (only 500 calories per day).
We'll stop right here and tell you that this is not true. There is no single scientific report that confirms this claim.1
At the very beginning, we must mention that this product is not a NATURAL product like companies claim. Be aware that they are just trying to get money out of you.
A severe diet (only 500 calories per day) can have a negative impact on your health.
What experts say?
The FDA approved use of HCG only for the treatment of infertility but did not approve the use of this hormone for weight loss. Although there are numerous OTC products made of HCG, we don't recommend you buying it without your doctor's advice.
There are no scientific reports about HCG use for weight loss purposes and many studies have shown that HCG has no beneficial effect in losing pounds, burning fat or improving metabolism.
In a study published back in 1995, the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology considered 24 clinical trials that measured the effect of HCG in weight loss, and the conclusion of this study was that there is no scientific evidence that HCG helps with weight loss, fat redistribution or suppressing the appetite.2, 3
So, why are HCG products still on the market?
The answer is simple. Because of the money. Products for weight loss are perfect a branch of earnings. For example, we had an offer from one affiliate company to promote one of HCG's products and on each sale, we would earn $56! This product costs hundreds of dollars and many people, unfortunately, are still buying it. This is why you can find perfect reviews of this product on many websites, which show that HCG can cause even a 30 pound loss in just a month. But don't believe them. You should believe only in science. We strongly recommend that you read a study published in the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology (it is available online, check the reference link number 2). It is a very good, unbiased study undertaken by professors at the Faculty of Medicine in Amsterdam.
Do HCG products have side effects?
There is one study - case report of deep vein thrombosis that was probably caused by HCG diet. This study also indicates that safety is not proved for any of HCG weight loss products, including: drops, lozenges or pellets.4
However, there is insufficient information about the adverse effects of HCG and more research is needed to establish the possible adverse effects of HCG.
In an article published in the Huffington Post, Doctor David Katz literally begs everyone to be aware of how dangerous an HCG diet can be and has done a great review of three relevant clinical studies that show that HCG is not an effective treatment of obesity.5
