Melatrol - Does Melatrol really work?

Melatrol is a natural sleep aid which contains the following ingredients:
- Root of plant called Valeriana officinalis
- Gamma amino butyric acid (GABA)
- 5-hydroxi tryptophan (5-HTP)
It is used to treat insomnia and to relieve stress in adults.
Does Melatrol really work?
Below is the scientific data for all the ingredients of Melatrol.
Melatonin is actually a hormone that is normally produced in all people and its main function is to regulate day-night cycle in the body. One meta-analysis (meta-analysis is the most appreciated type of study) which include 19 clinical studies has shown that melatonin reduces the time you need to fall asleep, prolongs sleep time and improves sleep quality.1 Melatonin, along with valerian root, is the most common ingredient of natural products used to treat insomnia.
As we said previously, valerian root is a common ingredient of natural sleep aid products. Meta-analysis which includes 16 clinical studies has shown that valerian improves sleep quality, but warns that larger and controlled clinical trials are necessary, because all of 16 observed clinical studies have methodologic uncertainties and their results should be taken with caution.2 There are some reports that patients taking products that contain valerian root often experience diarrhea. However, there is no clear association between this side effect and valerian root.
Passionflower is a plant that contains GABA - the main inhibitory neurotransmitter in the body responsible for muscle tone. By relaxing your muscles, it helps you relax and sleep well. It also has anti-anxiety effects and helps you relieve stress.
Roseroot (Rhodiola rosea)
One study published in Current Neuropharmacology3 explains how roseroot has many beneficial effects for your health, including:

- Neuroprotective effects
- Relief of stress
- Strengthening of the immune system
- Anti-anxiety effects
Roseroot is an excellent herb for insomnia and stress.
GABA and 5-HTP
GABA relaxes your muscles and helps you resolve insomnia. 5-HTP is a precursor of a serotonin (serotonin is the so-called "hormone of happiness" and is essential for the sleep process). 5-HTP works really well for insomnia, because it passes through the blood-brain barrier and in the brain, it is converted into serotonin. Increased levels of serotonin in the brain help you fall asleep faster and sleep longer. It was approved for OTC use in USA back in the 1995.
So, after a review of scientific data, we can conclude that Melatrol is a product with a good scientific background and is effective for insomnia treatment.
Melatrol, pregnancy and breastfeeding
One study has shown that taking valerian products during pregnancy may lead to a decrease in zinc concentration in the brain of the fetus which may lead to side effects. Therefore, Melatrol must not be used during pregnancy.
It is not known whether Melatrol passes into breast milk, and it must not be used during breastfeeding.
How to take Melatrol
Recommended dosage is one pill 30 minutes prior to sleeping.
You can expect improvement after taking first pill.
If you are using sedatives, anxiolytics or anti-depressants, you must inform your doctor before you start taking Maltrol.
Where you can get Melatrol
First, you should buy a one-month supply (on official website) and see how it works for you, and if you are satisfied with its efficacy, than you should continue taking it, but no longer than six months.
Melatrol side effects
It rarely causes side effects and is safe for long-term use because it cannot cause addiction, neither physical nor psychological.
The most common side effect of Melatrol is diarrhea.
Sometimes it may cause drowsiness, but this side effects occurs in less than 0.01% of patients.
